Economy and effects on studentsand our experiences in overall in class.

The economy has impacted all of us and continues to do so. Our children seem to be the first to suffer. Our school districts seem to be the first for budget cuts. When watching the video, I noticed the saddnes in some of the children's faces. I noticed the desperation on one girls face. She wanted to help her over worked mom but wanted to be in school as well. Some students talked about their parents working so much they hardly saw them. Others talked about their parents losing their jobs and how scared they are. Our children should not be worried about when they will get their next meal, or if they will lose their homes. It broke my heart to watch the video. Children have enough to deal with in school. They should not have to worry about their parents or money. Our children also suffer in the classroom. My son has over thirty students in his math class. Some students stand up to learn. Others sit on the floor because there are not enough desks to go around. This year class sizes have increased by 10 at my daughters school. Teachers were laid off. Teachers have more students and less resources to teach. This can not be an effective way for students to learn. Honestly, It blows my mind! This is a very personal issue for me. I have three children and I want the very best educational envirnment for them. I feel like they are getting cheated out of a good education..............
My experiences in class have varied from class to class. This has been a very fun, and educational class for me. I have learned so much about computers and I feel very grateful. I know I have a lot more to learn but this class has given me a great start. During this class I have worried, and felt overwhelmed. This has been achallenge for me. I normally breeze through my classes almost without thought. This class was not like that for me. It has been a wonderful reality check and has helped me appreciate those who struggle in some of my other classes. I am proud of myself and I thank all my classmates. You all have helped me so much. Thank you. I hope some day I can return the favor. Christin has been a wonderful support system for me, and a great friend. I'm so thankful to have you in my lif!:) Chester.... thank you for your patience with me. I am a work in progress!

  1. It think it is terrible that students have to stand or sit on the ground because there are not any desks for them. It really is terrible that kids are not getting the education that they deserve.

I enjoyed the class and learned a lot as well.

  2. It makes me sad to hear that your children are already being impacted by the economic crisis. It is ridiculous to think that children have to stand or sit on the floor to learn their lessons. There are major problems with a system when you hear stories like this and then hear that Hesperia School District spend something like 100+ million dollars to build Oak Hills High School!

  3. I really hope that your son's school is able to supply atleast chairs so the poor students wont have stand or sit anymore because that is terrible to hear. I also believe that schools are the first to be cut off from the budget which is a very sad thing knowing that all of the students are the most affected by it.

I honestly thought this class was going to be easy, but I never knew how many programs we were able to use as well as learn about them. I am very glad that this class was able to teach us all about technology and how we can use it in our own classroom.

  4. It is so sad how many teachers have been and are going to be laid off, I can not believe how the teachers remaining are going to be able to teach so many students. I hope that by the time we are graduated there will actually be jobs for us. Teachers are the support system for generations and it is so sad that they are one of the first budget to be cut.

This class has been so much fun with you in it, I am so grateful that we have been there for each other and I look forward to all the classes we have in the future. You have improved so much since the beginning of this class and it shows the quality of our professor. I can tell you are going to be such a wonderful teacher since you love to learn and expand your our knowledge, you will pass this desire to your student!

  5. When people think about the effects the economy is having on others, they seem to mainly think about what it has done to the adults of society and give little thought to what its doing to the kids. I don’t know how people expect the economy to get better when future generations aren’t getting the education they need to be contributing members of society.

This class has been a bit of a challenge for me, too. At times it was overwhelming, it felt like information was being thrown at us left and right without giving us a chance to absorb it before moving onto something else. But I have learned a lot in this class and plan on using some of it in the future.

  6. Wow, I can't believe their isn't enough furniture in the classroom for students to learn. How are students able to focus if the environment is not safe or comfortable. This extremely unfortunate and it only shows how badly our economy is affecting our schools. We are in desperate need for help.

I am extremely proud of you for making it through the class. I have also been frustrated at time or two. I think it is normal in technology to experience that feeling though. Technology is ever changing and it's hard to keep up with the changes! I truly appreciated each of my classmates support...it was truly a blessings!

  7. Shannon: I'm so glad you stuck it out despite your reservations about technology. You did it! Although you claim yourself to be a work in progress, consider the amazing progress you've made already! I'm certainly proud of you. Your passion for your kids and family will easily transcend to the students in your own classroom some day. Continue to think at the collaborative level when it comes to technology. Don't let the economy hinder your progress either. I wish you the best and look forward to seeing you in the future not as a student, but as a colleague. Take care!
